OpenSource Stateful Inspection Security |
| Great Lakes Consulting line of firewalls are designed for home users as well as for high traffic networks, datacenters and ISP's |
 |
| m0n0wall is a project aimed at creating a complete, embedded firewall software package that, when used together with an embedded PC, provides all the important features of commercial firewall boxes (including ease of use) at a fraction of the price (free software). m0n0wall is based on a bare-bones version of FreeBSD, along with a web server, PHP and a few other utilities. The entire system configuration is stored in one single XML text file to keep things transparent. m0n0wall is probably the first UNIX system that has its boot-time configuration done with PHP, rather than the usual shell scripts, and that has the entire system configuration stored in XML format. |

Why OpenSource?
Reasons for the employment of Open-Source as Firewall:
- Availability studies showing, no other operating systems gives many features and tools as like OpenSource, studies showing stability of Linux OSS.
- Matured network part, comparably with other Unix derivatives.
- No licenses and their limitations, as for number of active PC's or its VPN connections.
- Contrary to commercial operating systems the support of the manufacturer is void with Linux. This becomes more efficient by an abundance of other support ways around a multiple.
- Open Source code save none secretsneeze, whereby commercial manufacturers for own purposes embed functions, current security holes (bugs) can only be repaired from the respective manufacturer.
- Linux as scientifically seeming development model lets the quality of the source code be considered as the most important criterion to the acceptance of a contribution. This approach guarantees that within the hierarchy of OSS commercial self-interests do not attain a meaning.
- The entire operating system, inclusive utility programs and important applications, are subject the GPL and are thus free of charge and freely in the source code accessible.
A-Enterprise Stateful-Firewall is based on GNU code.
